Eid al-Adha

The Eid sheep, paid for together

In many families, brothers and sisters share the price of the Eid al-Adha sheep, and whoever goes to the souk often fronts a large sum. With PayMeDaba, everyone will be able to send them their share straight from their phone, before or after the purchase.

How to share the sheep's price with PayMeDaba

As Eid approaches, families often need to gather several thousand dirhams in a few days, while relatives live in different cities. Cash does not travel well and bank transfers take time.

With PayMeDaba, whoever buys the sheep shares their @username or QR code with the family, and each person sends their share in seconds, confirmed by their PIN. They can also send each participant a money request with the exact amount and a note like "Sheep share, Eid".

Each participant sees their own transfers and requests in their activity, and the buyer sees what they received. There is no shared family account: everyone pays from their own account. How the sacrifice is shared in religious terms is for each family to decide; PayMeDaba only handles the money.

Share the sheep in 4 steps

  1. Agree on a budget. The sheep, transport from the souk, the butcher if needed: settle on a total.
  2. Choose the buyer. They go to the souk and receive the shares.
  3. Collect before buying. Everyone sends their share, or the buyer sends each a request, so they head to the souk with the money in their account.
  4. Withdraw if needed. Souk sellers often want cash: the buyer can withdraw to their bank account free of charge within 24 to 48 business hours. Allow for that delay.

Example: three brothers and a 4,500 MAD sheep

Youssef, Hicham and Anas share the sheep every year for their parents' home in Meknès. This year the budget is 4,500 MAD (4,200 MAD for the sheep, 300 MAD for transport and the butcher). Youssef is buying.

ParticipantShareFee (0.1%, paid by sender)
Youssef (buyer)1,500 MADno transfer
Hicham1,500 MAD1.50 MAD
Anas1,500 MAD1.50 MAD

Hicham and Anas each send Youssef 1,500 MAD, paying 1.50 MAD in fees each. Youssef receives 3,000 MAD with no fee and adds his own share to reach 4,500 MAD.

Mind the planned limits: without ID verification, a transfer is capped at 1,000 MAD and the balance at 2,000 MAD. So Hicham and Anas need a verified national ID card to send 1,500 MAD in one go, and Youssef to receive 3,000 MAD. With a verified card, the planned limits rise to 10,000 MAD per transfer and a 20,000 MAD balance. They may change to meet regulatory requirements. Fee details on the pricing page.

Tips to keep it smooth in the family

  • Talk budget early. Souk prices vary a lot; a cap agreed in advance avoids surprises.
  • Respect everyone's means. Shares need not be equal: a brother who is a student may give less, if the family agrees.
  • Verify your ID ahead of time. National ID verification usually takes under 24 hours. Do not leave it to the eve of Eid.
  • Plan the withdrawal. If the seller wants cash, request the withdrawal to your RIB a few days before the souk.
  • Stay transparent. A photo of the souk receipt or a message in the family group reassures everyone.

Frequently asked questions

How do I send my share of the sheep to my brother?

In PayMeDaba, tap "Send", choose your brother by @username or mobile number, enter the amount and a note, then confirm with your PIN. He gets the money instantly with a notification.

How much does sending 1,500 MAD cost?

The fee is 0.1% of the amount, so 1.50 MAD on 1,500 MAD, paid by the sender. The person receiving pays nothing.

Why was my 1,500 MAD transfer refused?

Under the planned limits, an account without ID verification can send at most 1,000 MAD per transfer and per day, with a maximum balance of 2,000 MAD. Verify your national ID card and a selfie in the app to reach level 1 (10,000 MAD per transfer). These limits may change.

Can I pay the souk seller with PayMeDaba?

Only if the seller has a PayMeDaba account, since transfers happen between accounts. Otherwise the buyer withdraws the money to their bank account free of charge within 24 to 48 business hours and pays the seller as usual.

A relative lives abroad. Can they chip in?

PayMeDaba is for people aged 18 or over living in Morocco and does not offer international transfers, so a relative abroad will need to contribute another way.
