Pay back a friend, no waiting, no RIB

A friend paid for the taxi, the groceries or your match ticket? With PayMeDaba you will send it back in seconds using their mobile number or @username, so the debt is settled before anyone forgets it.

How to pay back a friend with PayMeDaba

Paying someone back in Morocco usually means a bank transfer (you need their RIB, then you wait), cash you never have on you, or a "I'll get you next time" that drags on for weeks. PayMeDaba replaces all that with a simple money transfer between two accounts.

Pick your friend by @username, mobile number, by scanning their QR code or by opening their pay link paymedaba.com/@username. Type the amount, add an optional message (up to 140 characters) and confirm with your 6-digit PIN. The money lands in their account instantly, 24/7, weekends included.

Would they rather remind you of the amount themselves? They can send you a money request: you get a notification and pay in one tap.

Pay back in 4 steps

  1. Open the app and tap "Send". Your balance shows; if it is too low, top up by bank card from 10 MAD.
  2. Choose your friend. Type their @username or their number starting with 06 or 07, or scan their QR code. You will see their first name, last initial and @username to check it is them.
  3. Enter the amount and a message. For example "Taxi + Saturday shopping". The fee shows before you confirm.
  4. Confirm with your PIN. Your friend is notified straight away. A sent transfer cannot be cancelled, so double-check the recipient.

Example: who owes whom?

On Saturday in Casablanca, Yasmine and Karim are bringing dinner to friends. Yasmine pays for the groceries alone (480 MAD) and later the taxi home for both of them (90 MAD). They agreed to split everything equally.

Groceries480 MAD240 MAD
Taxi home90 MAD45 MAD
Karim owes285 MAD

On Sunday morning Karim sends 285 MAD to @yasmine.b with the note "Groceries + taxi, thanks!". The fee is 0.1%: 0.285 MAD, rounded up to 0.29 MAD, paid by Karim. He is debited 285.29 MAD and Yasmine receives exactly 285 MAD, free of charge. Full fee details are on the pricing page.

Tips to keep it friendly

  • Pay back right away. The longer you wait, the fuzzier the amount. Sending it the same evening spares your friend from having to ask.
  • Round up gracefully. If you owe 47.50 MAD, sending 50 MAD is usually appreciated.
  • Use the message. "Tuesday's coffee" or "Your share of the cinema": your friend knows what the money is for.
  • Check the recipient. Look at the name and @username before confirming. A sent transfer cannot be undone.
  • Let them request it. If your friend prefers to set the amount, their request appears on your home screen and you just pay.

Why pay back with PayMeDaba

Frequently asked questions

Can I pay a friend back without their RIB?

Yes. With PayMeDaba you only need their mobile number, @username, QR code or pay link. Your friend only needs a RIB if they later want to withdraw the money to their bank account.

How much does it cost to pay someone back?

The fee is 0.1% of the amount, paid by the sender and rounded up to the next centime. Sending 15 MAD costs 0.02 MAD, sending 285 MAD costs 0.29 MAD. Your friend receives the full amount and pays nothing to receive it.

Will my friend get the money straight away?

Yes. Transfers between PayMeDaba accounts are instant, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Your friend is notified as soon as the money reaches their balance.

What if I send money to the wrong person?

A sent transfer cannot be cancelled. That is why the app shows the recipient's first name, last initial and @username before you confirm with your PIN. If it happens, contact the person and ask them to send it back, and email support@paymedaba.com.

Does my friend need a PayMeDaba account?

Yes, transfers happen between PayMeDaba accounts. Your friend must be 18 or older, live in Morocco and sign up with an email address and a Moroccan mobile number starting with 06 or 07.
