Money between friends, no change or RIB needed
A shared petit taxi ride, a coffee a colleague paid for, your share of a friend's birthday present: in Morocco these small debts are usually settled in cash, when someone has change, or by bank transfer, when someone has the RIB at hand and time to wait. PayMeDaba wants to make it as easy as sending a message.
You will pick a contact, type an amount in MAD and confirm with your PIN. Between two PayMeDaba accounts the money arrives instantly, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, weekends and public holidays included. It is the quickest way to pay a friend back.
Four ways to choose who gets the money
You never need the other person's bank details. Any one of these is enough:
- Their @username: the public name they chose when signing up, for example @salma.b.
- Their mobile number: a Moroccan number starting with 06 or 07.
- Their QR code: scan it straight from their screen at the café or the office.
- Their payment link: paymedaba.com/@username opens a send screen already filled in with their username.
See how the QR code and personal link work on the QR code and payment link page.
How a transfer works, step by step
- Open the send screen and search by @username or phone number, or scan their QR code.
- Check who is shown: you see their first name, the initial of their last name and their @username, never their phone number or email.
- Enter the amount in MAD and, if you like, a message of up to 140 characters, such as "Friday ftour, thanks!".
- Read the summary: amount, fee and total debited are shown before anything is confirmed.
- Confirm with your 6-digit PIN.
Your contact gets a notification straight away and the money shows in their balance. The transfer stays visible in both activity feeds.
Fees you see before you confirm
Every transfer between users costs 0.1% of the amount, paid by the sender and rounded up to the next centime. For 100 MAD the fee is 0.10 MAD; for 500 MAD it is 0.50 MAD. Your friend receives exactly the amount you typed, because receiving money costs nothing.
There is no subscription and no fee to open or keep an account. All amounts, with worked examples, are on the PayMeDaba pricing page.
A PIN for every transfer
No transfer leaves without your 6-digit PIN. After 5 wrong attempts the PIN is locked for 15 minutes, which protects your balance if your phone ends up in the wrong hands. You can also turn on Face ID or fingerprint unlock, and the app locks again after one minute in the background.
A sent transfer cannot be cancelled, so take a few seconds to check the name on screen. And remember: PayMeDaba will never ask for your PIN by phone, SMS, WhatsApp or email. Read more on the security page.
How much can you send?
The planned limits depend on how far your account is verified, and may change to meet regulatory requirements:
- Level 0 (email and phone): up to 1,000 MAD per transfer and 1,000 MAD sent per day.
- Level 1 (national ID card verified): up to 10,000 MAD per transfer and 10,000 MAD per day.
- Level 2 (enhanced verification): up to 50,000 MAD per transfer and 50,000 MAD per day.
Your current limits and what you have sent today will be shown in the Profile tab of the app.
