One bill, everyone pays their share

No more notes passed under the table and change nobody has. With PayMeDaba, one person will pay the bill and everyone else will settle their share from their phone.

How to split the bill with PayMeDaba

At a restaurant or café, it is easiest when one person pays the whole bill by card or cash. Then they use PayMeDaba to collect each share: they send a money request to each friend for the amount they owe.

Each friend gets a notification, sees the amount and message, and pays with their PIN, or declines if something is wrong. The money lands instantly in the payer's account.

PayMeDaba does not do the maths for you and there is no shared account: you decide each share, so you can split equally or by what each person ordered. A friend would rather pay without waiting for a request? They can send their share directly by scanning your QR code at the table.

Split the bill in 4 steps

  1. Pay the bill. One person settles with the restaurant or café.
  2. Work out the shares. Divide the total by the number of people, or note what each person had if orders differ a lot.
  3. Send each friend a request. Tap "Request", pick the friend, enter their amount and a note like "Friday dinner". Repeat for each person.
  4. Track payments. Your pending requests show on your home screen. When a friend pays, you are notified and the request leaves the list.

Example: dinner for four in Rabat

On Friday night in Agdal, Mehdi, Salma, Omar and Hamza have dinner together. The bill is 840 MAD and Mehdi pays by card. Their orders differ, so each pays for what they had.

PersonShareFee they pay (0.1%)
Mehdi (paid)240 MADno transfer
Salma230 MAD0.23 MAD
Omar195 MAD0.20 MAD (0.195 rounded up)
Hamza175 MAD0.18 MAD (0.175 rounded up)

Mehdi sends three requests: 230 MAD to Salma, 195 MAD to Omar and 175 MAD to Hamza. Each pays their own and covers their own fee. Mehdi gets back exactly 600 MAD, the 840 MAD bill minus his share. For a single 18 MAD coffee, the fee would be 0.02 MAD. See the pricing page for details.

Tips to keep it friendly

  • Agree on the rule before ordering. Equal shares or pay for what you had: saying it up front avoids a debate at the end.
  • Send requests at the table. Everyone remembers the amount and nobody has to chase anyone the next day.
  • Be specific in the note. "Agdal dinner, your share: main + juice" helps each person check.
  • Fix mistakes without fuss. Wrong amount? Cancel the pending request and send a new one. Your friend can also just decline it.
  • Take turns paying. For colleagues who lunch together often, rotate who pays and sends the requests, so nobody always fronts the money.

Why split the bill with PayMeDaba

  • No change needed: everyone pays their exact share.
  • Equal or not: you set each request amount freely.
  • Clear tracking: you see your pending requests on your home screen, each friend sees the ones they received.
  • Tiny fees: 0.1% for the sender, nothing for the receiver.

Frequently asked questions

Does the app split the bill automatically?

No. You work out each share, then send a separate request to each friend for their amount. That leaves you free to split equally or by what each person ordered.

How much does each friend pay in fees?

Each friend paying their request is the sender, so they pay 0.1% of their share, rounded up to the next centime: 0.23 MAD on 230 MAD, 0.02 MAD on 18 MAD. The person who paid the bill receives the full amounts with no fee.

What if a friend never pays their request?

The request stays pending on your home screen until your friend pays or declines it. You can also cancel it yourself at any time, for example if they paid you in cash.

I entered the wrong amount in a request. What now?

As long as it is unpaid, cancel the pending request and send a new one with the right amount. Your friend can also decline a request that looks wrong.

Can we pay the restaurant directly with PayMeDaba?

No. PayMeDaba is for transfers between individuals, not for paying shops or restaurants. One person pays the bill by card or cash, and friends pay them back through the app.
