How to send money to a student with PayMeDaba
When a child moves to another city to study, money becomes logistics: a money order, a bank transfer that lands days later, or cash handed to a relative making the trip. And it is always the day they are 200 MAD short for a book or a train ticket that things get complicated.
With PayMeDaba, parent and student each have their own account. The parent sends money to the student's @username or number, confirms with their PIN, and it arrives instantly, even on a Sunday night. The student can also send their parents a money request for a specific cost, with a note explaining why.
Important: to open a PayMeDaba account you must be 18 or older and live in Morocco. This use case is for adult students at university, college or in training in another city.
Send an allowance in 4 steps
- Each creates an account. Parent and student sign up with their email, Moroccan mobile number and a 6-digit PIN.
- The parent tops up. By Moroccan bank card or Visa/Mastercard, from 10 MAD, with no top-up fee.
- The parent sends the amount. Pick the student, enter the sum and a note ("November budget"), confirm with the PIN.
- The student spends or withdraws. They can pay back flatmates and friends through PayMeDaba, or withdraw to their bank account from 50 MAD after verifying their ID.
Example: a monthly budget from Marrakech to Rabat
Fatima lives in Marrakech. Her son Ayoub, 20, is in his second year at university in Rabat. She sends him 1,500 MAD at the start of each month. In November, Ayoub also sends her a 300 MAD request for textbooks.
| Sent by Fatima | Amount | Fee (0.1%) | Ayoub receives |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly budget | 1,500 MAD | 1.50 MAD | 1,500 MAD |
| Textbooks (Ayoub's request) | 300 MAD | 0.30 MAD | 300 MAD |
| Month total | 1,800 MAD | 1.80 MAD | 1,800 MAD |
Fatima pays 1.80 MAD in fees for the month; Ayoub receives everything with no fee. If he withdraws 1,000 MAD to his bank account for rent, the withdrawal is free and processed within 24 to 48 business hours.
Note: under the planned limits, a 1,500 MAD transfer is above the cap without verification (1,000 MAD per transfer). Fatima will need a verified national ID card (level 1: 10,000 MAD per transfer). Ayoub should verify too, since it is required to withdraw to his bank. These limits may change to meet regulatory requirements. See pricing.
Tips to keep things smooth
- Pick a date. PayMeDaba does not schedule automatic transfers: set a reminder for the same day each month so the student can plan.
- Let the student ask. A request with a clear note ("Club membership", "Train ticket home") saves awkward calls.
- Use the notes. They act as a memo for the year's budget, each in their own activity.
- Talk about security. Remind your student that PayMeDaba will never ask for their PIN by phone, SMS, WhatsApp or email.
- Verify IDs early. National ID verification usually takes under 24 hours; do it before term starts.
Why PayMeDaba for a student allowance

- Low cost: 0.1% for the parent, nothing for the student receiving, and withdrawals to the bank are free.
- Secure: a PIN for every transfer, optional Face ID or fingerprint unlock, real-time notifications. See security.
